Standard Setting in Academic Writing Assessment through Objective Standard Setting Method

Performance standards have important consequences for all the stakeholders in assessment of L2 academic writing. These not only describe level writing performance but also provide a basis making evaluative decisions on Such high-stakes role requires enhancement objectivity standard setting procedure. Accordingly, this study aims to shed light upon usefulness Objective Standard Setting (OSS) method specifying levels proficiency On descriptive research design, sample includes examinees and raters who were student teachers at university level. Essay task analytical scoring rubric employed as data collection tools. In analysis, OSS two-step cluster analysis used. The results based many-facet Rasch measurement model (MFRM) outline distribution criteria into proficiency. Also, main findings validated with analysis. That is, may be practically used help make objective judgments examinees’ target performance.
